Wrexham fans show support on Euro adventures

THE latest must-have item for all Wrexham FC supporters has found its way into two of Europe’s greatest stadiums.

David Jones, 63, a life-long Wrexham fan from Ellesmere, and postman for 40 years, took his Reds’ beach towel to the home of FC Barcelona, the Camp Nou.

David Roberts, 56, of Rhos, visited the home of Benfica FC, Estadio da Luz, in Lisbon.

The Leader is asking readers to send in their holiday snaps capturing their Wrexham FC towels in every corner of the UK and the world.

Pictures could feature the towel by a pool abroad, being used after a sporting challenge, being unfurled in a city centre or simply shown off in a far-flung destination.

The paper will print some of the best shots and our favourite will win next season’s shirt.

Entries will be accepted until the Reds’ first game at the start of next season in August.

Steve Cook, commercial manager for Wrexham FC, said the competition had been “brilliant”, and added the club had since been inundated with requests for new towels.

He has had to approach a new supplier in Turkey to increase his stock.

He said: “It’s been great publicity – the towels have been fantastic, so much so that we’re trying to a source a new supplier.

“For the first order I ordered 500 towels, which is quite a hefty stock. But that hasn’t been enough.”

The towels are currently out of stock in our Wrexham Leader office on High Street, but a fresh delivery is expected by the end of July.

Anyone looking to submit a photo for the Leader competition should include themselves and the towel in the shot and enclose information about when and where the photo was taken, as well as their full name, age, address and contact details.

Entries can be emailed to news@leaderlive.co.uk.
