WHOEVER said romance is dead?
One mystery couple have won a dream wedding at a luxury hotel after bidding for it on online auction website eBay.
With 28 bids submitted and a starting price of £1,250, there was fierce competition for the wedding package at Llyndir Hall Hotel in Rossett.
The online lot includes hand-crafted thrones, a red carpet welcome for the bride and bridegroom – and even a choice of ceremonial swords for the cutting of the cake.
The auction, which ended on Sunday, was eventually won for £4,252.75 by a mystery bidder from the Wrexham area.
The listing for the auction says the package was worth in excess of £4,000 at the three-star hotel’s usual winter wedding package prices.
Also included were a DJ, overnight accommodation for the bride and groom, complimentary upgrade for their parents and special room rates for friends and family.
A hog roast will feed up to 100 guests, while the couple will also have use of the Llyndir Lane hotel’s gardens for photography and a drinks reception.
The winners will wed on January 17 or January 24 next year.
The winning bid was lodged just eight seconds before the end of the auction, beating the previous highest by £100.
Hotel general manager Steven Scoullar said the auction, which had more than 1,100 views and was watched by 104 eBay members, was “a great success”.
