OPENING hours are to be extended at a post office which was saved by a campaign to keep it open.
Last October Rhosnesni residents fought off the proposed closure of their post office branch at the Dean Road Co-operative store.
Now Post Office Ltd managers have confirmed plans to upgrade and invest in the branch.
Post Office regional network manager for Wales, Sue Whittall, said: “We are to make an important investment in our service in Rhosnesni.
“We know how important the Post Office service is to the community and we feel sure our customers old and new will welcome the new modern open plan format and longer opening hours.
“This move will help secure Post Office services in the area for the future.”
Post Office services will be available between 6am and 10pm, seven days a week, under the new scheme. The post office services will operate from the shop counter alongside retail transactions during store opening hours.
The new-look branch will open at 1pm on Thursday, July 3. Before that the current branch will close for refurbishment from 5.30pm on Monday, June 30.
During the two-and-a-half days of closure customers are advised to use other branches.
The closest alternative branches are the Queens Park Post Office, Holt Road, and Bryn Hafod Post Office, Prince Charles Road.
In October campaigners hailed people power after plans to relocate the Rhosnesni Post Office to a Co-operative supermarket on Borras Park Road were halted.
