A GALA day has been hailed a ‘terrific community event’ as hundreds of villagers gathered for an afternoon of fun.
The annual Llay Miners Welfare Gala was extremely well supported, according to organisers, with a series of events taking place at the Llay Miner’s Welfare.
Events on the day included a yard of ale competition, football and crown green bowls tournaments and fairground rides.
The emergency services gave demonstrations and the event moved inside during the evening with the Welfare bar showing World Cup matches and holding a karaoke.
One of the organisers, Pete Lavender, said: “We had a nice, warm day for the second year running and it was a terrific community event, with various stalls and the fair proved very popular.
“It is a day put on for the people of Llay and it was thoroughly enjoyed.
“I’d like to express my thanks to the organising committee, the trustees and of course all the stall-holders and public who came and made it a day to remember.”
