A STAR-studded line-up will be taking to the football pitch to help fundraise for a town’s club.
Celebrities including boxing great Frank Bruno, actor Ralf Little and former footballers such as Wrexham legend Joey Jones and ex-Manchester United player Lee Sharpe are due to be at Flint Town United’s ground in July to help raise money for the club’s development.
The event, organised by Della Bennett from Buckley, will see team members from Flint Town United take on a Celebrity XI.
Mrs Bennett said: “It’s looking to be a really good event thus far – we have had a lot of interest and hopefully if this one goes to plan I will be doing it annually.
“Flint needs the funds because they’re trying to regenerate the ground to be able to get into the Welsh Premier, which is where I come in.”
Mrs Bennett chose to organise the fundraising event after her son, Alfie, five, joined the under-six side.
She said: “With how much he has come on in the last months and he loves it so much I wanted to put something back in. I’m already overwhelmed with the response we’ve had. It’s also a chance for some of the Flint team to play against some of the former players they admired.”
Mrs Bennett has been helped by her brother-in-law Joe Egan, the Irish heavyweight boxing legend, in getting some of the celebrities involved.
Other celebs due to be involved include ex-footballers Danny Granville and Perry Groves, actor Bruce Jones – who played Les Battersby in Coronation Street – and cagefighter Alex Reid
Some of the money will be donated to the Great Ormond Street Hospital.
She said more personalities will be attending on the day without playing, and she hoped media personality Kerry Katona would be able to attend.
Facepainting, a junior tournament and live music will also take place at the event on Sunday, July 27 at 3pm.
Tickets can be purchased from Flint Town United, and cost £8 for adults, £5 for children under 15 and are free for under 3s.
