Man arrested after Johnstown police car and helicopter persuit

A MAN has been arrested after a large-scale police incident involving a pursuit.

The incident happened in the Johnstown area on Tuesday at about 8.30pm.

On Tuesday night the National Police Air Service Helicopter said: “Assisting North Wales Police with a search for suspects following a pursuit.

“Two males detained in the Johnstown area and vehicle recovered.”

In an update yesterday, North Wales Police issued a statement which said: “A male driver was arrested for failing to stop for police and dangerous driving.”

The police operation included the force helicopter together with a number of vehicles.

Ruabon resident Edmund Phillips was passing through Johnstown on a bus on Tuesday evening.

He said: “I saw there were about four or five police cars with their blue lights on.

“There was a lot of activity.”

A resident of Johnstown’s Nant Park estate, who asked not to be named, added: “There were a lot of officers on the estate.”

Another unnamed resident, from Offa Street, said: “The police helicopter was circling and hovering around here for quite some time. There were police cars out as well.”
