Reports of gun spark armed police response in Mostyn

A MAN who sparked an armed police response after reports he was spotted with gun said he was out shooting rabbits.

North Wales Police said a member of the public contacted the force after they saw somebody in the Coast Road area of Mostyn with a gun just after 7pm on Tuesday.

But police were stood down after the weapon turned out to be a BB gun, carried by 21-year-old Christopher Paul.

Yesterday Mr Paul, of Coast Road, Mostyn, spoke to the Leader.

He said it had been a misunderstanding and he had simply been out shooting rabbits.

“I went out at about 6.30pm to shoot rabbits in the field opposite my house with my BB gun,” he said. “When I came home just after 7pm, there were police everywhere and when I took the dogs for a walk, officers said they were looking for a man with a gun. I figured that was me.

“Then 10 minutes after I got home, we had armed response unit at the front door. I was just shooting rabbits – this has never happened before.”

Mr Paul, who has owned the BB gun for three weeks, said officers took away the gun for about 20 minutes, before returning to it to him at his home.

North Wales Police confirmed no offences were committed.
