A 34-YEAR-OLD man was badly beaten during an assault in Wrexham.
The attack happened on Monday afternoon and the victim, Gareth Bird, was released from Wrexham Maelor Hospital on Tuesday.
Family members said he suffered “nasty injuries”.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault, which is believed to have taken place outside a set of flats on Y Wern in Caia Park.
Nobody has yet been arrested.
A police spokesman said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in the Queensway area of Wrexham.
“Officers were called at 4.19pm on Monday to a report that a 34-year-old local man had sustained injuries after being assaulted near the sports centre in Caia Park.
“The man has since been released from hospital and inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Mr Bird’s aunt, Janet Bird, of nearby Montgomery Road, said of her nephew: “He’s been badly beaten and we don’t know why.
“I have been told the injuries are really nasty but we don’t know anything more, just that it happened outside.
“We would like anyone who knows anything to tell the police.”
Mr Bird’s cousin, Bethan Ashfield, 24, lives across the road, next to the flats in Y Wern.
She said: “I wasn’t there but have heard it all kicked off at about 4pm.
“The police called us later on to say he [Mr Bird] was in hospital.”
Melissa Pryce, a mother who lives in a flat on Y Wern, said: “It really scares me when stuff like this happens.” Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to call Wrexham CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
