Residents in Leeswood still in shock after armed raid

A COMMUNITY leader has told of the shock being felt in his village after an armed robbery at a shop.

Villagers near Mold were left reeling after three men armed with a blade demanded money from staff at the Co-op food store.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the Easter Sunday raid in Leeswood, but Cllr Ray Hughes told the Leader people in the village are still shocked by the turn of events after the men escaped the scene with cash and cigarettes.

“It is a shock for the community,” he said.

“It is the talk of the village but the main thing is that nobody was physically hurt.

“It is bound to affect people and maybe people are a little apprehensive because it isn’t something  you would expect to happen in a place like this.”

The three men left the scene in a blue vehicle, thought to be similar to a blue Ford Mondeo, with the partial registration plate of MV04.

But North Wales Police Chief Inspector Jeff Moses has confirmed reports a number of vehicles had their number plates interfered with at the Druid Inn pub in Pontblyddyn and are police are keeping “an open mind” about potential links to the Leeswood raid.

Cllr Hughes said: “Police are making inquiries and hopefully they will catch those responsible.

“Our main concern is for the staff who experienced what happened.

“Hopefully nothing like this will happen again because there is complete shock something this has taken place in Leeswood.”

A Co-operative Food spokesman said: “Members of staff were very shaken, but thankfully unhurt by the incident.”

The spokesman confirmed there were no customers in the store at the time of the robbery and CCTV footage has been given to police.

Anyone with information about the robbery, which took place at the store on Queen’s Street shortly before 10pm on April 22, should call police on 101 quoting reference number R058482. Alternatively call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
