Glyn Ceiriog woman becomes honorary chocolate taster

A CHOCOHOLIC’S dream has come true – she has become an honorary chocolate taster for Cadbury.

Chocolate lover Jane Ballinger, from Glyn Ceiriog, beat more than 80,000 competitors from all over the UK to clinch the title.

The competition asked members of the public to invent a new word to describe the taste of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk, and Jane’s winning word – ‘absoverylicious’ – was deemed “fantastically inventive”.

Jane said: “I noticed the competition on Facebook and thought it was just a bit of a fun thing to do really.

“Out of all those people who entered I can’t believe it was my word that won.”

Jane, 45, was inaugurated into the Cadbury Bourneville family in Birmingham on Monday where she was presented with her honorary Cadbury taster uniform, enjoyed a money-can’t-buy trip around the top secret Cadbury factory, and even invented her own bar in the research and development labs.

“It was a dream come true,” said Jane, who is an administration worker at the Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen.

“Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely love chocolate and Cadbury’s chocolate, so this was my ideal prize. I was allowed to bring three friends and we got to spend the day in the factory and the tasting labs in Bourneville, which nobody gets to see.

“What goes on in there is top secret and I am not allowed to talk about it.”

But the ‘choctastic’ prize did not end there. Jane will also get all of Cadbury’s new chocolate delights delivered to her for a whole year, a prize valued at about £1,200.

She will be one of the first people to taste the new creations before they hit the shops. She will also receive a year’s supply of chocolate.

Jane said: “I didn’t even realise what the prize was when I entered the competition. I thought it might be a free chocolate bar or something. But the prize just got better and better.

“Everyone at Cadbury’s and at the factory has been brilliant and I have really enjoyed myself.”

Hayley Sosnovik, senior brand manager for Cadbury’s Dairy Milk, said: “We’re the nation’s favourite chocolate bar, and now Jane has the nation’s favourite chocolate role.”

He added: “Jane has grown up loving the absoverylicious taste of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk and we couldn’t have wished for a better person to join our team.

“Her fresh set of tastebuds will be testing every new product before public consumption.”
