Wrexham have replaced Grimsby Town at the top of the table after a 1-1 draw against Newport County in their top of the table clash at Rodney Parade.
Andy Morrell's side are now on the same amount of points as Grimsby, who are in action on Saturday, but the Reds have taken over the leadership on goals scored.
Joslain Mayebi kept Wrexham on level terms after saving Andy Sandell's 25th minute penalty but the Reds took the lead nine minutes later following an excellent counter attack.
Adrian Cieslewiz supplied a superb pass which leading scorer Danny Wright raced onto and the striker slotted past Alan Julian to register his 11th goal of the season.
It had been an end to end encounter but Newport put Wrexham under increased pressure in the second half and equalised on 55 minutes with Max Porter's shot from the edge of the area taking a deflection before finding the net.
Both sides had chances to win the game but neither could find a way through and had to be content with a share of the spoils.
WREXHAM (4-5-1): Mayebi; Alfei, Westwood, Riley, Ashton; Cieslewicz (Rushton 86), Harris (Ogleby 65), Keates, Clarke, Hunt; Danny Wright. Subs not used: Walker, Little, Coughlin.
