Glyndwr University set for A level students’ rush for places

A UNIVERSITY is preparing to be inundated with calls as results day looms for thousands of students in the region.

The annual scramble for a higher education place will take place tomorrow as sixth formers’ A level results are revealed.

And admissions chiefs at Wrexham’s Glyndwr University say they expect “vibrant interest” from students looking to secure a place before next year’s fee changes.

In July the university announced average undergraduate fees of £6,643 in 2012-2013, which bosses believe confirms the university’s “commitment to widening access”.

Dr Helen James, pro vice-chancellor, said: “Interest in studying at university remains stronger than ever, despite the rising cost.

“It remains a good investment for students’ futures and we expect any remaining places will be taken quickly.”

The university’s courses in nursing and social work are full for September but there are a number of places available in most other subject areas including art and design, creative media, business and engineering.

Julie Cowley, head of partnerships, recruitment and admissions, is advising students to stay calm.

She said: “If you did not get the results you needed to get on your chosen course, do not panic.

“Call our admissions team who can go through options and discuss course availability.

“Tutors from most subject areas will be able to speak over the phone on the day and in most cases, where tutors are satisfied students meet course requirements, a verbal offer of a place for September will be made on the day.”

Glyndwr’s clearing hotline on 01978 293439 will be open from 8am to 8pm on Thursday and Friday.

A special Twitter feed, @glyndwrclearing, will keep students up to date with developments on the day.

On Saturday, course tutors will be available between 10am-3pm at the Wrexham campus at a clearing open day.

A full list of courses offered by the university can be viewed online at www.glyndwr.ac.uk.
