A PARTY night is to be held to help raise money for the family of a man who sustained a serious head injury during an attack.

David Morton Thomas, 39, has been in medical care since March last year after he was pushed and struck his head on the slate floor in the Temple Bar in Chester.

Mr Thomas, who worked at Morgan Technical Ceramics in Ruabon, was knocked unconscious and has been unable to walk or talk since.

Alan Junior Gilmartin, 30, was jailed for two-and-a-half years for the attack and the family later called for the sentence to be reviewed.

Sister Kim Jones told the Leader it is particularly difficult knowing Gilmartin could be released later this year.

But the family is now looking to the future and has welcomed Mr Thomas back to Wrexham where he is a resident on the Penybryn ward at Pendine Park Care Home in Stansty.

Kim said: “He smiles and I think he does know us.

“We’re really glad he’s back in Wrexham now.

“It will be easier to visit him and friends and family can come and visit.”

Colleagues at Morgan Technical Ceramics have organised an event to be held on Friday to raise money to help with Mr Thomas’ care.

Sarah Hill, a production scheduler at the company, said: “We are still thinking of David and wish him well.

“We wanted to raise the money for his family to help with the costs of caring for him.

“At work he was a really nice, quiet person and close friends were devastated about what happened.”

Kim added: “We’re so grateful for all the support from his work colleagues and we just want to say a big thank you to them.

“It’s so nice they are thinking of David.”

Friday’s event will be held at Chicago Rock, Wrexham, at 8pm.

It will include a buffet and music from the band Everonyx, DJ entertainment, a raffle and party games.

There will also be zumba dancing and one worker will be getting his chest waxed.
Tickets can be bought on the door for £3.

About £1,000 was raised in November when workers organised a 5km fancy dress run, which was held in Ruabon.
