A FAMILY devastated by multiple suicides wants to raise awareness of the issue.

19-year-old Gareth Edwards, known as Eggy, from the Glyn Valley in Glyn Ceiriog committed suicide ten years ago.

Before that his father Ray Edwards had committed suicide while his mother Sally Edwards committed suicide last Christmas.

Now Gareth’s family have organised a charity disco and curry night in memory of Gareth and his family.

They also want to raise awareness of a charity called Papyrus which helps to prevent young suicide.

Nicole Hendriksen is the partner of Gareth’s brother Matthew Edwards.

She said: “The family has been devastated by multiple suicides and we want people to be made aware of this charity which can help people out there.

“Although this is a memorial it is also to celebrate what would have been Eggy’s 30th birthday on September 17.

“We want to raise awareness to people that there are places to go to for help like Papyrus.”

Speaking about Gareth family member Joanna Finch said: “He was lovely.

“He was so popular around the village, he was a real character.”

The charity night will be held at The Oak pub in Glyn Ceiriog at 7pm on October 2.

There will be a raffle and a disco and entry is free with a charge for food.

Nicole added: “Thank-you to all the businesses who have donated prizes for the raffle.

“The event is open to all – everyone is welcome.

“All money on the night is going to Papyrus.”
