BRYMBO’S backs may be up against the wall in their bid to fight off relegation but it didn’t show in their stunning six wicket win at home to second-placed Mold.

Mold batted first and called time after 49 overs on a testing 194 for eight.

Danny Drew top scored with 67 and skipper David Soothill hit 58 as opening bowler Ben Roberts deservedly grabbed 4-33.

Brymbo’s response against one of the season’s best teams was to blast their way to victory inside 35 overs.

James Claybrook added to his growing reputation with 74 and there were vital contributions of 36 and 32 from skipper Jamie Griffiths and David Lloyd, who took just nine balls to make his contribution.

Usman Butt’s three wickets were all in vain and Mold may now be feeling the pressure from Bangor and Connah’s Quay in the race for the runners-up spot.

The title has already gone to champions Llandudno, who didn’t have it all their own way despite beating arch rivals, Hawarden Park by 114 runs.

Llandudno needed 54 overs before they thought it was safe to declare on 185 for eight, Steve Smith and Aled Williams both scoring 44 as Campbell Marr landed 3-62 and James Hurlin took 2-16 from 15 miserly overs.

Unfortunately for an under strength Park their reply was nothing short of dismal as they were bowled out for 71, Marr top scoring with 28 as Ajay Dhawan took 5-7.

Park, Brymbo and now Chirk are all looking over their shoulders after Mochdre racked up a massive 380 for two against Nick Flack’s Chirk.

Their hero was Will Evans, who blasted 216 not out to take his tally past 1,000 runs for the season.

Chirk were gallant in their response as Jonathan Phillips (62), John Paul Wood’s unbeaten 35 and 78 from Flack took Chirk to 268 for seven at the end of their 62 overs.

Llanrwst did themselves a favour by beating Bangor by 13 runs.

Bottom of the table Llanrwst, who are now only 24 points away from fifth from bottom Hawarden posted 179 for eight and then bowled out Bangor for 166.

That result helps Connah’s Quay bid to finish as runners-up especially after Sean Steynberg-Wright’s team won by a comfortable seven wickets at Menai Bridge.

Dave Powell took 2-34 and then opened the batting with a fine 57 as Quay restricted Menai to 211 for six from 58 overs.

Darren Jones’ 68 not out and 39 from former Prestatyn all-rounder Mitch van Wyk steered them to 212 for three.

Pontblyddyn hammered St Asaph by 85 runs after bowling the Saints out for 85.

Glenn Chambers was the star of the show taking 4-31 and scoring 44.

Overseas batsman Angus Reckord chipped in with 41 and two wickets apiece from Ben Mason and Kevin Owen also helped Pont’s cause.
