Wrexham began the new Conference campaign with a 1-0 victory over Cambridge United at The Racecourse.

The new-look Wrexham side, containing eight of Dean Saunders' 11 summer signings, got the all important goal in the 25th minute.

Neil Ashton's forward ball was turned into the path of Andy Morrell who turned his marker before firing past keeper Simon Brown from inside the area.

WREXHAM (4-2-3-1): Shearer; Walker , Blackburn, Sinclair, Ashton; Harris, Keates; Morrell (Gall 90), Brown (Tolley 87), Knight-Percival; Mangan. Subs not used: Maxwell, Taylor, Smith.
