A SCHOOL has scooped an award for working closely with other schools across Europe and India.

Bryn Alyn School in Gwersyllt has links with schools in Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Spain and Norway as well as India.

The children in years seven and eight are involved in the projects and regularly swap recipes and compare life with other children of their age. They have received an International Schools Award for their efforts.

Assistant headteacher Amanda Harrison said the children communicate by emailing, writing and using the internet to make telephone calls.

“The kids love it,” she said. “They love the fact they’re making friends with people they wouldn’t normally talk to.

“The key thing is for the kids to understand not only the differences but also the similarities between themselves and the teenagers.”

Mrs Harrison said they were hoping to extend the scheme out to the older children throughout the next school year.
