A MAJOR facelift of a Wrexham community facility is nearing completion.
Tanyfron Community Centre, which has benefited from funding towards a new kitchen, extra storage and the creation of a new meeting room for community groups, is due to be re-opened in the near future.
Over recent years there had been a decline in usage of the centre and there were calls locally to bring some life back into the building.
At a consultation event Councillor Paul Rogers said community facilities would be at risk if they were not used.
And has been working with the community to secure funding and volunteer support to improve the centre over the past year.
He now hopes the building will see increased usage in the future.
Cllr Rogers said: “I am pleased we have made significant progress in improving the facilities at Tanyfron Community Centre and would like to thank everyone who has contributed and the management committee for their support.
“We have already seen an increase in usage at the centre by community groups and this can only support its future.
“I want the centre to offer more activities for youngsters as well as older people and we are already organising events to get the community involved."
The first of many community events has already been arranged for the centre.
A tea dance has been arranged with funding from NIACE, the Co-op and Wrexham Council to encourage community members to get involved in a new activity, keep fit and meet new people. It will be held on Thursday, May 20, between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.
