A WREXHAM runner will take on the UK’s biggest marathon for a cause close to his family’s heart.

Darren Rowlands, 41, will tackle his second London Marathon on April 25 and will be hoping to beat his previous best time of two hours and 44 minutes, achieved five years ago.

This time he will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support who provided care for his mother-in-law Jean Catherall, who died at the age of 64 in 2008.

Darren’s wife Lynda said: “My mother was having treatment for cancer and she took a turn for the worse, and within 10 days she passed away.

“For those 10 days we had a Macmillan nurse and she was absolutely wonderful.”
Darren, a club runner for Wrexham AAC, has set himself a fundraising target of £800.
