A MAN is on a mission to transform the fortunes of a takeaway previously linked to an outbreak of E.coli.
Eight months ago Llay Fish Bar on Council Street was closed by officials from Wrexham Council after four people who had eaten food from the premises fell ill.
The National Public Health Service for Wales said the takeaway was the “most likely source” of the outbreak which left Wrexham librarian Karen Morrisroe fighting for her life.
The new owner, Ali Ozdemir, took over the business last month and re-named it Mr Ali’s Fish and Chips.
He had previously been the owner of the chip shop between 2005-2007 and said: “I ran a highly successful takeaway business from these premises for a number of years and have found the events of the recent past both concerning and disappointing.
“As a successful businessman I know only too well the importance of customer trust and standards of hygiene.
“I am upset at how a business that previously had such a good name and strong local reputation has suffered.”
He added: “Our aim is to work hard to re-establish our reputation within the local community and provide a valued local facility.
“This is a totally fresh start in Llay but one built upon a number of years of quality catering experience.
“Our customers are also our friends – and I would hope that people will give my business a chance to re-establish itself.
“I can assure the local community that Ali’s takeaway is back in Llay, committed to value for money, quality produce, and the highest standards in customer service and hygiene.”
Bulent Akarsu, who helps out with the business as well as the Town Hill Market off licence, said: “It is a completely different place.
“We know it will take time to get back to what it was but we have had good support from the customers.”
