THE RSPCA is appealing for information after a cat was found with such a severe skin infection it had to be put down.

An RSPCA officer was called to an address in Brymbo on Sunday, January 24, at about 3.30pm after the cat was spotted underneath a lean-to.

The fur on the tortoiseshell-coloured animal was so matted it was tearing at its own flesh.

Officers believe the cat’s horrendous condition may have been caused by neglect.

As a result of his inability to move, acute pain and laboured breathing he had to be put to sleep by a vet.

RSPCA animal welfare officer Claire Davies said: “I have never seen a cat with such matted fur.

“This poor cat was in agony and his pain could not be relieved. It’s vital that we contact the owner as soon as possible to find out how this happened.”

Anyone with details about the incident or the cat’s ownership should phone the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999. Calls are in confidence.
