FEARS hundreds of jobs could be lost at Toyota's Deeside manufacturing plant have been raised, after the company announced a 'surplus' of 750 posts.

Company bosses say no final decisions have yet been made, but compulsory redundancies at its Flintshire factory are being considered.

The plant, which is based on Deeside Industrial Estate, employs about 500 people.  Jobs are also under threat at the firm's Burnaston plant in Derbyshire, where another 3,500 workers are based.

Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami said he would be holding talks with Toyota in the coming days.

He added: "I have spoken with the company and received assurances that no decisions have yet been made. Talks are taking place with workers and there is still hope that a marked upward shift in car sales could avert job losses.

"No decision will be made without lengthy and full consideration, and I have asked to be kept informed of any developments."
