Outrage at ‘ludicrous’ plan to axe historic Flintshire wards

PLANS to force centuries-old towns and villages together have been branded “an insult” to Flintshire.

Proposals by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales to cut the county’s councillors by 10 and transfer votes across the county have sparked fury among community leaders.

The plans would mean:

  • Voters in parts of Flint seeing their votes counting in Bagillt.
  • Holywell and Greenfield merging to form one council ward.
  • Halkyn, Northop and New Brighton being combined at local elections.
  • Saltney, Saltney Ferry, Broughton and Bretton also being counted together in a move described as “ludicrous” by one councillor.

Flintshire Council must now decide on its response to the proposals.
