FOLLOWING the success of a play tackling a subject ‘nobody wants to talk about’ a Mold woman now aims to go for charity status.

Dancing in the Wings, written by Mold woman Philippa Davies, 48, launched on stage at Theatr Clwyd earlier this year.

The play is based on the writer's own journey through the loss of her baby daughter, Sam, who was born sleeping in January 2012.

Philippa said following the ‘tremendous response and interest’ in the play, she has decided to apply for charity status as ‘Our Sam’.

‘Our Sam’ will be there to support bereaved parents. Frontline healthcare professionals, social care professionals and employers as well as the general public.

Philippa told the Leader: “We would do this by giving baby loss a voice and raising awareness, understanding and support for those affected as a result of miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death.

“We are currently recruiting Volunteer Trustees to apply for charity status and lead us into initial development and beyond with the projects we want to deliver.

“We are looking for passionate individuals with specialist experiences, skills and knowledge including Mums and Dads who have had to face baby loss, Healthcare Professionals (Maternity/Obstetrics/GPs), Theatre and Film Producers, Directors, Counsellors (Ideally baby loss/child loss), Finance/Fundraising Professionals.”

More information can be found online at on www.oursam.org.uk.

Trustees will be selected by an independent panel.

Philippa added: “Looking at a positive future post Covid-19 as babies will continue to die and we want to use my experiences and skills gained over 25 years in writing lecturing and training, research, project development and management to work alongside the other fantastic baby loss charities to support those parents affected by baby loss to reduce the severity of associated mental health difficulties.

“The organisation will initially provide services via direct delivery to North and Mid Wales with an online national reach, with a plan to expand geographically over time.

“Funding for the services and projects will be secured through applications to various funding providers, online donations, sponsorship and fundraising activities.”
