ARRANGEMENTS for picking up discarded drug addicts needles are not working, community councillors say.
The Leader has revealed complaints by residents about the number of needles left on the grass at the park in Rhosddu Road, Wrexham, close to a children's play area at the rear of Vernon Street.
The issue was again raised at the monthly meeting of Rhosddu Community Council
Nigel Hodges, clerk to the council, said: “It seems wrong that the MP (Ian Lucas) and or local councillor Marc Jones had to clear up the needles.
"Someone is not dong their jobs.”
County Cllr Jones said: “We have got to clear the needles from our streets.
"Whatever the system is for the needles, it’s not working.”
The community council has been concerned about the number
of drug rehabilitation agencies are in the same area – Rhosddu – and voiced concerns when the The Elms drug and alcohol rehabilitation premises on nearby Grosvenor Road was expanded.
Cllr Steve Gittins said: “We told Wrexham Council what would happen and now it has."
Members claimed some addicts who get a supply of methadone from The Elms are selling it to buy drugs and are just discarding the used needles anywhere. They are not replacing used needles for new ones.
The council is to take up the matter with public authorities including Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
