A DEESIDE man made a momentary "foolish" decision to go out of the house armed with a kitchen knife, magistrates heard.

Bradley White, 21, of North Street, Shotton, provided "about the earliest guilty plea possible" by admitting to police he had gone out of the house with the knife.

White had received a phone call from his mother who was concerned about a man potentially threatening her and she asked him for help.

In response, he took with him a kitchen knife, but once he got to the street he realised what he was doing and returned to the house, North East Wales magistrates were told.

But an anonymous phone call to the police resulted in officers arriving and he admitted the offence.

The Mold court heard the offence was "out of character" for White, with White himself adding, when he was sentenced: "It was a big mistake. I have learned my lesson."

Magistrates handed White a 12-month community order with a 10 days rehabilitation activity requirement and he must complete 80 hours unpaid work.

He must also pay court costs of £85 and an £85 victim surcharge.
