A CONCLUSION of accidental death has been recorded on a Flintshire woman who died shortly after undergoing surgery for a broken hip.
Audrey McNeil, 79, suffered the injury in a fall at her home in Nant Garmon, Mold, and was taken to the Maelor Hospital in Wrexham.
Although she was suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and hardening of the arteries, it was decided to operate because the fracture was so serious.
However her condition deteriorated and she died on May 7, an inquest at Ruthin was told.
A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death as multi-organ failure due to hospital-acquired pneumonia, with her other contributory conditions.
Recording a conclusion of accidental death John Gittins, coroner for North Wales East and Central, said the fall was the catalyst for the fatal condition.
