A MAN from Wrexham who admitted slapping a teenage girl' bottom after he had been on an alcohol and drugs binge has been hit hard in his pocket.

Magistrates heard Daniel Wayne Adamson told police officers he had "been on a bender" when he approached a 16-year-old girl on the Spanish Steps at Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre in Wrexham at about 2.10pm on July 27.

The girl was with her boyfriend and they were on their way to have a meal at Frankie and Benny's restaurant when Adamson, of Broxton Road, approached the couple before slapping the female on her buttocks.

The girl later made a complaint to police saying she felt "disgusted and shaky" following the incident.

Adamson, 33, was identified using CCTV, and following his arrest he told officers he had been drinking alcohol and taking cocaine.

He could not recall the incident and was shocked he was being accused of sexual assault.

After viewing CCTV footage he said he must have fallen or tripped down the steps and into the girl but he later admitted a charge of sexually assaulting a female.

Catherine Jagger, defending, said Adamson showed "genuine remorse" for his actions which Ms Jagger described as "nonsensical".

District judge Gwyn Jones told him at North East Wales Magistrates Court at Mold: "At one time this behaviour might have been acceptable, but no longer.

"It was a stupid act and one which you will pay the price for."

Adamson was handed an 18 month community order with a rehabilitation requirement and a requirement to attend a six month alcohol misuse course.

He was also ordered to pay the teenage girl £400 compensation and pay a victim surcharge of £85 and costs of £85.
