POLICE are warning residents to keep car keys out of sight following a spate of break-ins in Wrexham.

A number of homes were broken into over the weekend by raiders who were targeting cars parked outside properties.

Burglars who broke into a house in Piercy Avenue in Marchwiel just after midnight on Saturday tried to steal a car, but fled when the owners were alerted.

But raiders who got into a house in Windrush Close in Wrexham soon after were more successful as they managed to drive off with a Vauxhall Corsa.

A white Mercedes E63 was also stolen from a property at Rackery Hall Mews in Llay sometime last Saturday with the thieves gaining entry to the vehicle by taking its keys from a utility room.

Other break-ins were reported to police, including a house in Green Gardens in Chirk and two sheds in Heol Glyndwr at Coedpoeth which were raided overnight on Sunday.

A garage at a house in Rhosnesni Lane was also targeted, but nothing was stolen.

Detective Sergeant Paul Kelly said: “I am urging residents to secure their properties and not to leave car keys in their houses if they are out. They certainly should not leave them on open display, easily accessible, or downstairs at night time."

The DS says residents should look out for suspicious behaviour and to report it to https://www.north-wales.police.uk/contact/live-chat-support
