ANGERED Buckley residents have launched a petition to save the town's last bank.

Lloyd's Bank is set to close its doors for the last time on February 4, 2019, a decision that has been met with animosity from many of the town's residents.

This has led to the launching of a petition to save Buckley's last bank from its impending closure. The petition, which so far has over 200 signatures, will be sent to Buckley Town Council in a bid to keep the bank alive.

It is hoped by sending the petition to the town council, it will carry much more weight with the town council's official backing when it is sent to Lloyd's head office.

Kelly Frost has set up the petition and has urged members of the community to rally round in support of trying to keep Lloyd's open.

She said: ''Please help stop the closure of Lloyd’s bank in Buckley. This is the only bank now available in the town due to the closures of the other banks last year.

''We as a small town need Lloyd’s branch to stay open for the needs of the community, especially our elderly residents who might not have access to online banking, or are unable to make it to Mold or surrounding areas to do their every banking.

''As a community we have a fantastic relationship with the bank and the people who work there, they are friendly and helpful and go beyond their means to help make sure that whatever your banking needs are goes smoothly and without confusion and worry. We need Lloyd’s to remain open. Please help.

''They seem to be more interested in property development than building the town up to what it used to be. How can they justify putting houses here when there’s no infrastructure? We can’t rely on cash machines because they’re forever broken. I wouldn’t trust them. I might be fighting a losing battle but I’d rather fight it and lose than not.”

Trevor Jones said: “I would like know where our councillors are, where’s Mark Tami? I have been in touch with Lloyds senior level and he said it will close on the day it will close and that’s it. They don’t care about local people. If there’s loyalty on their side why is there non on ours?”

Mike Lewis added: “Local people here can’t bank online. They have to think about a different generation, not the keyboard generation. They will cope with difficulty. If you haven’t got your own transport how do you get to another one?”

A Lloyds Bank spokesman said: “We have made the difficult decision to close the Lloyds Bank Buckley branch in February 2019 due to the changing ways customers choose to bank with us, which has resulted in the branch being used less often.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause. Customers can continue to access their banking locally by visiting the nearby Post Office, which is less than half a mile from the branch. The nearest alternative branch is Mold.”
