OWNERS of a care home say they have taken action to address serious concerns raised in a damning report.

Stansty House Nursing Home in Wrexham was issued with a non-compliance notice after an unannounced inspection was carried out by Care Inspectorate Wales.

Inspectors criticised low staffing levels at the home in Rhosddu and said the dignity of residents had been compromised.

They said people living there were left waiting for long periods without help and highlighted the case of one person who was cold to touch and left without a blanket.

Minster Care Group, the company which runs the residential, nursing and dementia care service, said immediate action was taken to address the ‘shortcomings’ identified following the inspection in June.

They added a new manager has been employed to improve the standard of care.

A spokesperson said: “A new manager has been appointed and they have worked closely with our regional management team to improve procedures and communication, and the overall standard of care provided.

“On the day of the visit, there was an unusually high absence rate, which did not give a true reflection of normal staffing levels.

“We have, however, revamped the staffing structure and employed additional staff to ensure this situation does not re-occur.

“We continue to work closely with the local authority to ensure we are delivering the highest standard of care possible.”

The inspection report said residents were not always able to choose what time they went to bed and some were taken to their rooms as early as 5pm.

It also queried whether care records had been falsified after a member of staff wrote that they had helped a person to brush their hair, clean their nails and put make-up on, despite evidence to the contrary.

The company said all staff members have since undergone ‘rigorous training’.

Inspectors are due to carry out a follow-up visit at a later date.
