A VILLAGE has been transformed with a spruce up which brought the whole community together.

Parts of Southsea have had a new lick of paint and a tidy as school children, PCSO's, councillors and other community leaders spent the day rolling up their sleeves as they got stuck into an environmental action day.

Dozens of pupils from Ysgol Penrhyn in New Broughton grabbed their paint brushes and gardening gloves to help brighten up their local area as part of the project in conjunction with environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy, starting off at School Lane in Southsea, and planting at Rose Grange pensioners bungalows.

The first set of pupils worked for two hours in the morning before another set arrived in the afternoon to continue their good work for another hour-and-a-half after lunch.

Gwenfro County Councillor Nigel Williams was among those who got involved and said it was a good way to bring everyone together to tidy up the area.

He said: "It's quite a nice event.

"More than 100 pupils from the school in New Broughton were painting walls, litter picking and planting spring bulbs which were donated by Broughton Community Council.

"The council's Streetscene and local PCSO's were also involved, cleaning and painting walls, railings, and planting daffodils."

Cllr Williams gave thanks to the Broughton estate office, Wrexham Council's Streetscene, Keep Wales Tidy and a special thanks to children from Ysgol Penrhyn school for enabling the event to happen.
