STAFF at a charity shop in Chester are appealing for help after thieves smashed the front window and stole almost £1,000 worth of jewellery.

The incident is said to have happened overnight on Monday, September 24, when thieves stole jewellery from the Oxfam store in Frodsham Street.

Deputy manager Siobhan Megarrell has now set up a fundraising page with a goal of raising £900 to cover the costs.

She wrote: “On Sunday 23rd September, our small valuables window was broken into and items stolen. This stock's value totalled £900, and even worse, is that they were items generously donated to us by a member of the public.

“We are doubtful that we will get the items back, which is a massive blow not just to myself, my manager and our lovely team of volunteers that give their free time to help us, but also to the people in the UK and around the world that Oxfam's work helps.

“We are hoping that we can recoup the value of the items stolen. So please, anything towards our goal would be greatly appreciated!”

Police are appealing for anyone with information on the break-in to contact them on 101 or via www.cheshire.police.uk/contact/general-enquiries, quoting IML 193160.

Alternatively, information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The burglary happened a week after raiders smashed the front window of Camera Solutions on the same street.

It is thought a chunk of concrete from a nearby building site was used to break the glass at around 4am on Monday, September 17.
