PASSERS-by in Rhyl might be excited to spy a flume taking shape at the site of the new £15 million waterpark.

The Journal was invited to see how work was progressing on SC2. Slides under construction include the Anaconda, the fastest flume in the park, which zooms through darkness; Speedster, a three-lane slide; and Boomerang, where riders are gently swayed back and forth before coming to a stop in the middle.

The attraction – being built on Rhyl promenade, on the former skate park and Drift Park site – has launched a recruitment drive.

SC2 is expected to create 65 jobs – a mix of leisure, catering and hospitality roles.

The waterpark, to open in 2019, will boast a 1,200-metre square water space, with indoor and outdoor flume rides, as well as a children’s water play frame and slides.

It will also feature Wales’ first TAGactive arena, an outdoor splash pad, sun lounger areas and food and drink outlets. There will be a bar and terrace to cater for evening trade.

Denbighshire County Council leader Cllr Hugh Evans, who is also cabinet lead member for regeneration, said: “This is such an exciting and crucial time for the development of SC2.

“The work is progressing at a pace and is all on schedule to open in the spring.

“We have already begun our promotion and marketing drive and it’s now time to advertise the various job roles to help run and manage this brand new facility.

“We are delighted to be creating 65 brand new jobs in the leisure industry in Denbighshire and I’m sure there will be no shortage of applicants wanting to be part of our exciting journey.

“The local economy in Rhyl and the wider Denbighshire and North Wales region will also benefit from SC2’s opening, with an additional 350,000 visitors being attracted to the town”.

Drop-in sessions about the job application process will be held at the Nova, Prestatyn, on Thursday, September 27 and Rhyl Leisure Centre on October, 2.

Both events will be held between 4.30pm and 7.30pm.

Jobs will be advertised on the SC2 website, www.sc2rhyl.co.uk, and Denbighshire County Council website, www.denbighshire.gov.uk/jobs
