THE world’s most famous steam locomotive has been hurtling its way to across the North Wales coast en route to Anglesey today.

The historic Flying Scotsman left Crewe this morning, bound for Holyhead.

Crowds gathered along the track route, which included stops at Prestatyn, Colwyn Bay and Bangor .

The world-famous ex LNER A3 no 60103 loco came out of the Doncaster works in 1923.

It would go on to clock 100 miles an hour in 1934 one of the very first locos to reach that speed.

Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley, the loco went out of service in the 1960s, but was later restored by North Wales businessman Alan Pegler.

After arriving at Holyhead, the train is scheduled to remain there for three hours before making its return journey.

Due to large crowds anticipated taking photographs, North Wales Police have tweeted safety warnings.

They said: “Seems a bit obvious but don’t stand on the track when 10 ton of iron is coming towards you at 7omph. Enjoy the Flying Scotsman as it travels to Holyhead.”
