SCHOOL children shed tears of happiness when they received thank you letters from the newly married royal couple.

Year Four pupils at Acton Park Primary were astonished to receive individual replies to well-wishing letters they posted to HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle before their wedding in May.

The Queen’s grandson married the American TV star at St George’s Chapel within the grounds of Windsor Castle on May 19.

The letters arrived on Wednesday, and teacher Helen Williams said they became instantly treasured mementoes.

“In school this year we have been doing a lot on writing for a real audience and the Royal wedding was an opportunity to write for a real purpose.

“They all designed individual cards with their own individual messages and posted them off.

“We thought we might get something back, but did not expect every child to get an individual thank you letter with their own name on. It was a really nice touch.”

Inscribed in the letter, along with a picture of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, was a message which reads: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been touched by your incredibly kind cards and letters on the occasion of their wedding, and are so touched that you took the trouble to write as you did.

“It really was most thoughtful of you and greatly appreciated by their Royal Highnesses who send you their best wishes.”

Mrs Williams added: “They arrived yesterday and we told them they could take them home today, and to be honest some of them were in tears they were that happy.

“They are lovely mementoes to keep and as we have explained to them, this is almost a once in a lifetime experience - there are not that many Royal weddings.

“It has been good to show them how their skills transfer to real life, writing a real message with a real purpose and they have seen that now with the reply they have got.”
