A FORMER Great British Menu chef has left a prominent restaurant which bore his name.

Chef Mark Ellis, who competed on the BBC Great British Menu, opened the Shippon by Mark Ellis earlier this year.

The restaurant, based in the Plassey near Bangor on Dee, underwent a full refurbishment in February, with Mr Ellis being heavily involved.

Mr Ellis has now left the restaurant, though reasons for his departure remain unknown.

In a statement released, the owners of the Plassey said that the chef left the restaurant via mutual agreement.

John Brookshaw, managing director of Plassey Leisure Park Limited, said: “Albeit a short working relationship, we have enjoyed the process and value of what Mark brought to the team whilst with us.

"Our team remains unchanged with Lauren Mackintosh-Smith as restaurant manager and Dominic Ash as head chef, who both ensure the service and quality provides customers with the Shippon experience."

Adrian Parry-Jones, operations manager, said: “We have changed the menu and its format to suit our local customers and the holiday park visitors’ requirements.

"We want it to be a venue people can visit for a weekday meal when you want a night off from cooking or to come celebrate a special occasion."
