RESIDENTS turned out to have their say on a dog exclusion scheme.

Flintshire Council implemented the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) last October.

It introduced measures to tackle dog fouling and dog control, including prohibiting dogs from entering defined areas in the county.

A public consultation over the order was held at Hawkesbury Community Centre in Buckley.

Steve Jones, Flintshire Council's chief officer for Streetscene and transportation, said: "The authority arranged a public drop-in session to gather public opinion relating to the issues in the area.

"Concerns were raised in regard to the extent of the exclusion zone in the Elfed and following the event Flintshire Council will consult with the school to determine if any amendments can be made to the order to alleviate some of the issues.

"All areas in Flintshire which are subject to a PSPO can be found on Flintshire Council’s website."

The Leader heard from some of the residents following the consultation.

Peter Watkin said: "I want to see less confusion over the proposals.

"We need more clarity over where they are going to be excluded from, why and how it is going to be policed."

Martyn Coldray said: "I am happy with the proposals, as long as people are responsible."

Heather Cunningham said: "There are commonly used footpaths across the school.

"The PSPO means those paths can't get used.

"Irresponsible dog owners are already using it and leaving the dog foul.

"The responsible dog owners who will pick up are not allowed on there.

"We're asking that people who will follow the regulations be allowed to use the paths."
