SMALL change has provided a grand level of support to a Chester-based charity which helps to tackle loneliness and isolation.

Yorkshire Building Society members' donations have boosted Chester Adult Phab (People Have Abilities) Club, which provides social activities for people with and without disabilities.

The group had received a £1,095 donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation through the Small Change Big Difference scheme, where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.

Lynda Hesketh, chairperson of Chester Phab, said: "We were pleased to gain the support of Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.

"The donation has enabled us to provide fully inclusive social opportunities for people with and without disabilities.

"Chester Phab was established more than 30 years ago. Solid lifelong friendships have been formed between members who before joining Chester Adult Phab Club were socially isolated and lonely."

The charity was recommended for the donation by colleagues at the society's Chester branch on Bridge Street.

Christine Williams, manager of the Chester branch of Yorkshire Building Society, said: "We're delighted that the Charitable Foundation – which is funded by our members – has been able to support Chester Phab.

"The club is a lifeline for many people in our community and has transformed many lives. I know our members will be as proud as I am to support to such a worthwhile cause."

In 2017, the Charitable Foundation donated £234,684 to more than 200 charities and good causes nominated by members and colleagues from around the UK.
