SHOTTON town is starting to look like 'no one cares about it', a councillor has said.

Cllr Kelly Evans, of the Higher Ward, said flytipping is still a major issue across the area, but particularly around the back of the ASDA store where there have been reports of rats.

She said: "It's not good anywhere but it has gotten worse and it's a public pathway. People with prams are using it and it's awful.

"I have been reporting it constantly but there's nothing more I can do, it's gone down all the right channels. It's just unsightly and it's spilling on to Dee View.

"It's not down to ASDA, it's people flytipping, just recycle and put rubbish in bags, it's not hard. It's everywhere now, Shotton is looking as if noone cares when we do.

"All of us at council are so passionate about the town otherwise we wouldn't be doing it and it's just awful. People come and visit from outside of Shotton and they aren't getting a good impression, something needs to be done."

The councillor has said that herself and Flintshire County Council's Streetscene has reported the issues to ASDA but nothing is being done about it.

She added: "Flintshire don't own the land and residents assume it's a council issue but it's not.

"There has been reports of rats along there and environmental health have been out but they said there was none. Residents are saying they keep seeing them and we have been told that if we see one to take a picture but by the time you get your phone out the rat has gone."

The Leader has approached ASDA for a comment.
