BURGLARS have reportedly ramraided a village shop before making off with a cash machine.

Johnstown ward councillor David A Bithell told the Leader of accounts he had heard from residents of an incident in the early hours of Sunday at the Co-op in Ruabon Road, Johnstown.

He explained: "My understanding is that a 4x4 vehicle ram-raided the shop and they took the cash machine - the accounts seem consistent.

"As it stands the store is closed and I am liaising with North Wales Police to clarify the situation.

"This is not the first time the Co-op has been subject to break-ins."

Following the alleged incident it could be seen that the entrance to the store had been cordoned off with police tape.

Staff at the shop said they were unable to comment on the raid and directed inquiries to the Co-op head office where managers could not be reached.

The Leader also attempted to contact North Wales Police for a comment without success.

There have also been attempts to target cash machines in Caergwrle and Garden City in recent weeks.
