BANGOR ended their North Wales Cricket League Premier Division campaign with a narrow 13-run loss at Llandudno.

The 2017 champions were unable to mount a serious challenge during their title defence and had to settle for an eventual fourth place finish as a result of their efforts, 56 points behind eventual league victors and nearby rivals Menai Bridge.

The home side lost talented teenager Matthew Jones for two early on when he was clean bowled by Chris Dawson, and Andrew Williams also got in on the act with the prized wickets of Danial Evans (28), Sam Rimmington (5) and Ethan Hill (0) to end with figures of 3-28.

Kevin James and Ajay Dhawan made valuable contributions of 33 and 31 midway through the innings, but the one consistent presence at the crease was wicketkeeper Keegan Armstrong.

The talented batsman was in exceptional form throughout, firing an unbeaten 82 as the hosts set a target of 217 all out from 48 overs in the middle.

Tudno skipper Jack Rimmington made an impact with the new ball by taking out visiting openers Idrees Ijaz and Andy Williams for five and 17, with Sohaib Khan adding just five before he was trapped lbw by Evans.

Nadeem Rehman and captain Robbie Marshall got the away side back into the game with an 85 partnership for the fourth wicket until the former was stumped off a Luke Sumner strike on 52.

Marshall followed shortly after due to a Tom Thornton delivery on 54, and the same bowler also took the wickets of Matt Kelly (0) and Gareth Edwards (1) to end the day on 3-45.

An unbeaten 48 from Matthew Haswell gave the visitors a fighting chance in the closing stages, but he ran out of balls as the outgoing champions made 204-9 from their allotted 50 overs.
