PRESTATYN Town produced their best performance of the season so far to secure a 4-0 Huws Gray Cup home success over Penrhyncoch.

The Seasiders were in ruthless form throughout to progress to the second round, and the newly owned club will look to transition this form into Huws Gray Alliance action this Saturday when they welcome Ruthin Town to the Motion Finance Stadium (2.30pm).

Leon Field and Ryan Turner’s men got off to a sensational start and opened the scoring after just 13 minutes when Ian Griffiths sent Aaron White through on goal, and he calmly placed the ball into the net to give Town an early advantage.

Things almost got better for the home side midway through the half when James Hay’s goalbound effort was blocked after some fine approach play from Jack Hoult, and Griffiths had claims for a penalty waved off by the linesman despite the referee initially giving the spot kick for the infringement.

White went close to doubling his tally for the afternoon after the break when his diving header forced a stunning stop from the visiting keeper, but he could do nothing to prevent Griffiths from notching a second for the hosts from close range on 51 minutes after Ciran Jones and Chris Bennett were both denied in quick succession.

The former Prestatyn Sports striker did not have to wait long for his brace, which arrived after 54 minutes courtesy of a clinical finish to take his tally to three goals in two games since re-joining the club.

There was still time for further success in front of goal, which arrived on 71 minutes when defender Dave Hayes produced a powerful header into the net, with Griffiths failing to convert an opportunity for his hat-trick late on for the Seasiders.
