PRESTATYN Town have further bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Matty Griffiths from Meliden.

The prolific striker arrives at the Motion Finance Stadium after a hugely successful spell with the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two side, and he becomes the first new signing since the club was taken over by a three-person consortium consisting of Dave Farrall, Neal and Salih Colakoglu earlier this week.

The Journal understands that Town’s joint-management team of Leon Field and Ryan Turner managed to get Griffiths’ signature confirmed with six minutes to spare prior to the 5pm deadline so he can take his place in the squad for their home Huws Gray Cup clash against Penrhyncoch on Saturday.

Griffiths has long been recognised as one of the most underrated finishers anywhere in the region, and he showed his talented once again last term for Meliden during a devastating campaign in front of goal.

He and was crowned the league’s top scorer after finding the net an astonishing 38 times throughout the campaign.

Griffiths spearheaded Meliden to a seventh placed finish, scoring more than half their goals thanks to a series of consistent performances and it is a first time that a player from the club has netted more than 30 goals in a single season.

This included 32 from open play and six from the penalty spot, and he finished eight ahead of Steven Whittaker from promoted Bodedern Athletic.
