ANDY MORRISON has been named August's Welsh Premier League manager of the month.

Morrison guided Connah's Quay Nomads to three successive league wins last month, which included a 7-0 thumping of Llanelli and a victory over reigning champions The New Saints.

Nomads finished August with a hard fought 2-1 success against Aberystwyth, playing the closing stages of the contest with 10-men, meaning the month yielded 10 goals for, one goal against and, crucially, nine points to put them amongst the pacesetters.

Morrison insists that although he is winning the award, Nomads' success has been a real team effort.

He said: "I'm delighted that we've been given the award that we deserve for our results in August.

"For me personally, the award should be a 'Club of the Month' - the results over a successful month are the by-product of so many people, not just the manager, doing their job well."

Morrison also felt that the recognition had been a long time coming, pointing to last season's impressive March as a potential award winner.

Nomads beat Cefn Druids with nine-men before defeating Bala Town 1-0 at Maes Tegid and Cardiff Met 3-0 on home soil.

Morrison added: "Although, we were the only team to win all our games in August, scoring 10 and conceding just one, I have to say that after March last season I'm amazed we were given the award!"
