A WHOPPING three tons of litter has been cleared from a coastal site thanks to a team effort.

North Wales Police has stated that following a recent survey of the Wales Coast Path in Flintshire, the county's countryside service has been tackling problems on the coastal site known as The Rock in Connahs Quay.

This includes addressing vandalised infrastructure, overgrown footpaths and high levels of litter.

A spokesman for the force's North Flintshire team said: "In addition to increasing site visits, rangers - working with local groups including the Dee Wildfowlers, Sustrans Rangers, Groundwork Trust, The Quay Watermens, Streetscene, the Police, town and county councillors, the Coastal Rangers and community volunteers - have cleared three tons of litter from the site and adjacent nature reserve."

The spokesman added the works have also included painting interpretation panels and clearing old sandstone walls of ivy and trees to open up vistas and sightlines for visitors and members of the community.

"The adjacent saltmarsh was also a source of Marine Plastics and was cleared as a result," The police spokesman said. "The encroaching scrub woodland next to The Rock's play area is also about to be cleared for safety reasons and to improve views throughout this industrial yet scenic stretch of important Welsh coastline."
