MOCHDRE remain in pole position for a North Wales Cricket League Division One promotion place thanks to a nine-wicket home triumph over Dolgellau.

The title hopefuls are just 11 points behind leaders Pontblyddyn following the success, and they face a crunch final day clash with Bethesda on Saturday with just eight points separating them in the standings.

The away side set a target of 152-7 from their allotted 50 overs at the crease, with opener Phil Leeds producing an innings of genuine quality before he was caught off a Russ Boswell delivery on 64.

Only skipper Gareth Lanagan (20) and Stuart Evans (17*) were able to make it into double-digits thereafter as Stewart Williams took three important wickets for the loss of 23 runs.

Kyle Brown claimed a pair of scalps at the expense of just 14 runs from an eight over spell, and a strong opening partnership from Williams and Steve Smith ensured the hosts got over the line with minimal fuss to extend their recent good run of results.

Williams lost the only wicket of their time in the middle when he was skittled by Sam Williams after contributing 58, with Smith and captain Matty Humphreys remaining resolute to finish unbeaten on 45 and 41.
