A MAN has admitted stealing alcohol worth more than £100 from a Wrexham store.

Paul Geoffrey Matthews, 29, of Trevenna Way, Caia Park, pleaded guilty to the offence.

Justin Espie, prosecuting at Wrexham Magistrates Court, said at 1pm on May 1 Matthews had filled his bag with four bottles of drink from Asda on Holt Road to the value of £110.50.

He tried to leave without paying and security recovered the bottles.

Stephen Edwards, defending, told the court Matthews had become homeless 18 months ago and had never appeared in court prior to that.

He added Matthews had recently secured a job and settled accommodation.

Mike Jones, chairing the magistrates' bench, fined Matthews £110 for the offence and told him to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and £85 in court costs.
