POLICE have been praised for their exemplary work in getting a Flintshire 'drug den' closed down.

North Wales Police north Flintshire team confirmed last week that a home in Connah's Quay was 'shut down' after a closure order application was approved by magistrates.

The force stated numerous complaints of anti-social behaviour and drug use had been received in respect of the property - 26 Ffordd Cae Llwyn - and that it is hoped its move will result in a 'dramatic improvement' in the area.

Connah's Quay South ward councillor Ian Dunbar told the Leader: "As the county councillor for the ward concerned, I along with town councillor Peter Davies attended the house with the police to obtain a closure order on August 22.

"The police were exemplary in their handling of the situation after months of hard work gaining enough evidence to carry out the closure order."

Cllr Dunbar thanked members of the public who have come forward with information about the address.

He added: "We know the police are undermanned but the response from them over this ongoing problem will show the public that with information supplied to them they will act to put a stop to dealing drugs in Connah's Quay.

"Once again thanks to the relentless work by North Wales Police these houses will be closed and people can live in a safe environment."

A police spokesman said: "We believed this property to be a big part of the recent emerging problem at the top of Connah's Quay and we hope residents should see a dramatic improvement in the area.

"If this isn't the case we will find the next property and close that and the next."

According to the north Flintshire police team, the documents submitted to the court to facilitate the closure totalled almost 2,000 pages - prompting a call for patience as the force continues to crack down on the anti-social behaviour issues.

The spokesman added: "Please continue to work with us and be patient. We work as quickly as we can but the process is not overnight."
