LLANDUDNO remain in the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division championship picture thanks to a five-wicket win at Pwllheli.

The Lions continued their impressive end to the campaign with another accomplished display with both bat and ball, and Jack Rimmington’s men are now just 14 points behind Menai Bridge with three games remaining ahead of their home clash with Denbigh on Saturday.

The home side made a moderate start to their time in the middle, with teenage sensation Owen Reilly clean bowled by Jamie Grimshaw on 29 and Craig Edwards caught off a Rimmington delivery after contributing 23.

Grimshaw added Chris Moore (0) to his list of victims soon after, before Tom Thornton took over proceedings with a fantastic spell that saw him remove Swapnil Kate (3), Syed Aslam (17), Sean Reilly (4), Guto Roberts (0) and top scorer Jason Underwood (36) on his way to outstanding figures of 5-29 from 12 overs.

An unbeaten 13 from Adam Williams late on ensured the hosts finished their allotted 50 overs on 149-9.

The visiting run chase got off to a good start thanks to the opening pair of Sam Rimmington and Danial Evans, who made 45 and 35 respectively before both were ousted from the crease by Aslam.

The same bowler took his tally to 4-40 with the scalps of Keegan Armstrong (34) and Will Sissons (0), but a knock of 20 not out from Ethan Hill got the title hopefuls over the line with minimal fuss for the loss of five wickets after 30 overs of play.

There was further cause for celebration as the Lions’ second unit, who achieved a six-wicket home victory over North Wales Cricket League 2nd XI League West Division rivals Bethesda.
